In Denmark there is a special word, “hygge” (pronounced “hoog-eh”), that often guides design and home decor choices. “Hygge” roughly translates as “coziness,” but it means to create a warm, cozy atmosphere and enjoy the good things in life (like food and drink) with good people. The winters are long and dark in Denmark, so it’s important to sustain the spirit by surrounding oneself with “hygge.”
Fall is here in the Greater DC area, and we are already booking our pre-Thanksgiving installations. We wanted to help our clients to think intentionally about creating a warm, inviting atmosphere that will echo the joys of the holidays throughout the year. Our “Inspired by Iceland: A Color Palette” was a big hit, so we took to the color wheel again to create this set of Autumnal design boards. We hope they inspire you to enjoy the rich colors of fall and embrace the concept of “hygge.”
