Frank Lloyd Wright once wrote, “If you invest in beauty, it will remain with all you the days of your life.” We believe this is true of many kinds of beauty, from a beautiful personal character to a home that is designed to inspire and rejuvenate the spirit. The world outside our home is often chaotic and ugly. Here in the Greater Washington D.C. area, we live busy lives. It is incredibly important that we return each day to spaces composed of the lines, textures, colors, and images that make us smile and shrug off the stresses of the day.
Designer Toshiyuki Kita puts it this way: “The ultimate goal of design is to make the user happy.” We interpret that this way: your home should be designed to bring your family together, to simplify your life, to provide a place where you can forget about the small problems and focus on what is really important in life.
Of course, family memories can be made no matter what the state of the kitchen, but if you are planning to invest economically in your home, to improve it for later resale or to add value to your long term investment….then consider also investing in beauty. Don’t just paint the walls, take the time to choose a color that make you smile. Don’t just put up generic wall art, invest in well framed family photos to remind yourself of the most important part of the home. Don’t just put the “safe” granite choice on your counters, choose a color or pattern that make the center of your home a work of art, one perfectly suited to the mood and character of your home.
“If you invest in beauty, it will remain with all you the days of your life.”
